TEMPLO SAN JUAN BAUTISTA
Commissioned by the Centro INAH Oaxaca, e c o was asked to carry out the restoration projects of three temples damaged by the 2017 earthquakes in the sierra chinanteca, in the north of the state of Oaxaca. The main characteristic of the architecture of the sierra consists of an architectural party of a single nave with a choir and sotocoro at the access and wooden gabled roof supported by two walls of stone from the region and clay. In the case of the three temples, many of the materials were modified over time.
The temple of San Juan Bautista, located in the town of San Juan Petlapa, has been greatly modified over time both in its construction system and in its finishes. The original roof was replaced, a new front façade was added and several reinforced concrete elements were placed. This undoubtedly modified its structural behavior with respect to the original materials.
The above data had to be taken into account for the structural diagnosis of the damage caused by the earthquakes in order to determine the scope of the comprehensive restoration project for the conservation of the building.
