The Biblioteca Pública Central Alonso de Axayácatl represents since its construction in the mid-twentieth century a very important social landmark for Iztapalapa. It is located in a dense urban center and plays an important role for the children who come to visit it since it is surrounded by educational centers.
In 2017, it suffered structural damage after the earthquake paralyzing part of its service to the public. As part of the National Reconstruction Program, e c o -hand in hand with Fundarq- undertook the executive project and work for its rehabilitation and restructuring. This intervention consisted in the restructuring of several walls as well as the reintegration of the connecting bridge between two areas of the building: the children's section and the general collection.
