SANTUARIO DE NUESTRA SEÑORA DE LOS ÁNGELES

The Santuario de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles originated as an adobe hermitage dedicated to the Virgin of the Angels, built in 1580 in the Guerrero neighborhood. Over the years, the temple was destroyed and rebuilt several times, mainly due to flooding. It wasn’t until 1745 that it was reconstructed in masonry to ensure greater durability. In 1776, earthquakes caused severe damage, prompting the laying of the foundation stone for a new sanctuary in 1777. Since then, the building has undergone numerous modifications to reach its current form. It was declared a Historic Monument by the INAH in 1932.

Following the 2017 earthquake, the parish sustained significant damage, including instability in key structural elements.

The work commissioned to e c o involves the restoration of façades, annexes, vaults, bell towers, the presbytery, and the electrical system.
